In what has been a very chippy first period the Lightning find themselves down 1-0 to the Winnipeg Jets. The Jest struck first at the 5:25 mark on Blake Wheeler‘s seventh goal on the year with assists to Jacob Trouba (4) and Grant Clintsome (7).

The Lightning penalty kill unit is ranked 13th in the NHL at 83.6% (18 goals in 110 attempts) and at home they rank 17th at 82.8% (11 goals in 64 attempts). The unit has been extremely stout over the teams last 23 games stifling the opposition at a 89% (65 kills in 73 attempts) clip.

The Lightning Penalty Kill unit was called upon 1:17 into the game as Matthew Carle was sent to the penalty box for 2-minutes for a high stick and successfully killed the Jets first attempt.

The Lightning Penalty Kill unit was on at 16:18 when Nate Thompson was sent off for 2-minutes for boarding. The Lightning successfully killed it.

The Lightning Power Play finished the last 1:02 of the first period and will have the balance to begin the 2nd period after Andrew Ladd was sent off for 2-minutes for roughing.
