Tampa Bay Lightning wing Ryan Malone, who is facing charges of DUI and cocaine possession, had a written not guilty plea entered Monday at his arraignment in Tampa, according to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.
The 34-year-old filed a waiver of appearance for his arraignment in April and was not at the hearing. He didn’t ahve to be, either, because his next court date will be July 7. His attorney, Wes Trombley, did not comment to The Times.
Malone was arrested in early April in Tampa and charged with cocaine possession. Police say they found 1.3 grams in his back pocket. He was also charged with DUI. According to police, he had Breathalyzer blood-alcohol readings of 0.112 and 0.116, high above the 0.08 legal limit. The drug charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail, the DUI charge six months.
It is yet to be determined where he stands with the Lightning.
