Penguins Score Late, Defeat Lightning 5-4

The Tampa Bay Lightning fell by a final score of 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in front of 19,204 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Lightning drop to 3-2-0 (6 points) while the Penguins improve to 4-1-0 (8 points).

Stamkos_Pittsburgh_10_12_2013Entering the 3rd period the Tampa Bay Lightning held a 3-2 advantage over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The lead was short lived as 0:25 seconds into the period Sidney Crosby scored his second goal of the game (assists to Rob Scuderi and Matt Niskanen).

The Penguins went on the power play at the 8:28 mark when Alex Killorn was called for holding but the Lightning penalty kill unit was unable to keep the Penguins from taking the lead.

A the 10:25 mark Sidney Crosby put the Penguins up 4-3 as he found the back of net once again (assists to Jussi Jokinen and Evgeni Malkin) to complete his 8th hat trick of his career and first since December 2, 2010 against the Atlanta Thrashers.

At the 3:34 mark the Penguins Chris Kunitz was called for hooking and the Lightning went on a power play. With 3:02 remaining in the period Alex Killorn scored the game tying goal (assists to Richard Panik and Tyler Johnson).

With just 0:57 second to go int he game Richard Panik was called for tripping and the Penguins went back on the power play. They took advantage of the opportunity as     blasted a slap shot past Ander Lindback to put the Penguins up 5-4.

The Lightning goals were scored by Teddy Purcell (3), Alex Killorn(2), Valtteri Fippula (4), and Steven Stamkos (4).
