Pace Quickens – Lightning Lead Penguins 3-2 At 2nd Intermission

At the 1:34 mark of the 2nd period the Tampa Bay Lightnings Eric Brewer was sent to the penalty box for roughing and before the face off Ryan Malone was given a 10-minute misconduct penalty.

The Penguins took advantage of their opportunity and at the 2:14 mark Sidney Crosby (assists to Jussi Jokinen and Chris Kunitz) tied the game up at 1-1.

The  Lightning responded at the 5:11 mark of the period when Steven Stamkos (his 4th of the year) with assist to Martin St. Louis and Victor Hedman.

The Penguins tied the game at 2-2 at the 7:01 mark when Brooks Orpik‘s shot from the blue line deflected off Lightning defender Matthew Carle  (assist to Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz) got past Anders Lindback.

The Penguins Olli Maatta was sent off for 2 minutes for interference at 13:48 and at the 15:42 mark  Teddy Purcell scored his 3rd goal of the year (assist to Sami Salo and Martin St. Louis).

The Penguins out shot the Lightning 9 to 8 in the 2nd period.


I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me.
