The Martin St. Louis drama continues to play out in Tampa and there’s a brand new twist.
The Tampa Bay Lightning superstar essentially denied reports earlier this week stating he requested a trade before the Olympic break. Well, apparently he has a very short list of preferred destinations.
According to TSN, St. Louis only prefers to go to one team and that is the New York Rangers.
The Toronto Sun writes that the relationship between St. Louis and Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman reportedly soured when the veteran winger was excluded from Team Canada’s Sochi Olympics roster in early January. Yzerman, also Canada’s GM, eventually added St. Louis as an injury replacement for Tampa teammate Steven Stamkos.
After the gold-medal game, reports surfaced about St. Louis’ desire to leave the Lightning after the original roster announcement.
The Tampa Bay captain currently has a no-movement clause, giving him power during this strange time period. He and his family live in Connecticut in the off-season.
