Lightning’s Vinik to shut down hedge fund

TAMPA – The move comes amid claims by those investors that the fund, Vinik Asset Management, was underperforming during a generally rising stock market.

Lightning officials confirmed the closure, and said the move should have no impact on the team or operations at the Forum where they play. Other fund managers at Vinik Asset Management plan to start their own funds.

Vinik started his fund in 1996 after a celebrated turn as a top fund manager with Fidelity Investments.
