Lightning Morning Skate: Gudas Skating, Stamkos Not

Some good news and some bad news for the Lightning this morning. Well, the bad is really good news if you think about it. Rather smart too.

The good news is that defenseman Radko Gudas is skating in a regular jersey, indicating that he could return to the lineup tonight against the Phoenix Coyotes after suffering a lower body injury, reports Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.

The bad news? Steven Stamkos is not skating as he took his option, reports Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune. Stamkos says he’ll pick and choose which days to take off.

Smith says Stamkos played in the first two games and felt good but will work with the Lightning staff and take a day off now and again to manage his leg and not go overboard on it. It is, afterall, a surprise he’s back this soon.

While taking the practice off, he signed a shirt for a fan:

The Bolts take on the Coyotes in the Tampa Bay Times Forum tonight at 7:30pm.

Update – 11:30AM: Erik Erlendsson says there are no lineup changes tonight. This means Gudas is out. In his soundcloud audio, Cooper said Gudas is shooting for the Panthers game to return. That’d be the 13th.
