Tampa Bay Lightning And Montreal Canadiens Trade Goals in 2nd Period – Tied At 1-1

After a choppy scoreless first period both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens seemed to pick up the pace in the second period trading a pair of goals. The Canadiens opened the scoring at the 5:15 mark of the first period when Tomas Plekanec scored his 13th goal with assists to Brian Gionta (15) and Travis Moen (6). The Lightning tied the game at the 11:43 mark when Martin St. Louis scored his 17th goal on the year with assists to Tyler Johnson (11) and Ondrej Palat (9).

It was St.Louis’ sixth straight game with a point giving him four goals and four assists during the streak. It was also his fourth straight game with a goal just one game shy of tying his career high five game streak.

Shots on Goal:

The Canadiens outshot the Lighting 8 to 6 in the second period and lead overall 15-9.

Special Teams:

The Canadiens power play enters the game 7th in the NHL on the power play at 21.4% (28 goals in 131 attemptss) and the Lightning penalty kill unit ranks 10th at 83.5% (21 goals in 127 attempts).

The Lightning power play enters the game tied for 19th at 16.2% (21 goals for 130 attemots) and the Canadiens penalty kill unit is tied for 4th at 86.4% (17 goals in 125 attempts).

The Lightning were unsuccessful in their one power play opportunity of the second period after P.K. Subban was went off for 2-minutes for holding at the 8:25 mark.

The Canadiens were unable to capitalize on their one power play opportunity when Jean-Philippe Cote was sent off for 2-minutes for interference.
