The Tampa Bay Lightning have been one of the best stories of the young NHL season, entering Monday with the highest point total in the East and one of the game’s best players in Steven Stamkos.

Unfortunately for the Lightning, they might have lost Stamkos to a bad injury on Monday against the Bruins.

Stamkos was backchecking hard in the second period and had a brutal collision with the goalpost. After the collision he tried to get up and fell right back down, clearly in a ton of pain. It didn’t take long for the stretcher to come out to get him off the ice while his leg was immobilized. It didn’t look good in the least.

Obviously, he went straight to the hospital.

According to TSN’s Aaron Ward, Stamkos broke his tibia and will require surgery.
