Heavy is the head that wears the crown and last night the Chicago Blackhawks got ambushed by a driven Tampa Bay Lightning team 6-5 in overtime. The game was played before a full house at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, most who turned out to see the defending Stanley Cup Champion Hawks and boy did their get their monies worth.
The game wining goal came from the stick of Martin St. Louis just 76 seconds into overtime was the sixth the Hawks gave up on the night, and for a team that allowed the fewest goals in the league last season, that’s a tough point to swallow. But this was a night when Tampa Bay was relentless.
It was a bit of a strange night as the Hawks were lucky to leave Tampa with a point after a wild 6-5 overtime loss to the Lightning — a point they “earned” when the Lightning scored on their own net from center ice with 1:49 left in the third period. While Chicago still has an awesome record 6-1-3 in 10 games into the season. The Bolts were able to grab the win despite being outshot by a wide 43-25 margin.
