The early 2017 Vegas odds aren’t favoring any Florida NFL teams to make the playoffs. That comes as quite a surprise to most local fans as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are vamping up for what could their best season in years.
Roy Cummings of Fan Rag Sports and Florida Football Insiders joined the Rock Riley Show to discuss this topic.
“I’ve got to say I’m a little surprised,” said Cummings. “I would’ve thought that even Vegas would’ve had a little more faith in the Buccaneers at least, but the NFC South is tough.”
However, though it seems Vegas’ faith is in other NFL teams, Cummings explains how the odds do make sense.
“I can see why Vegas looks at it that way,” explained Cummings. “The odds Vegas puts out, the over unders, they’re designed to kind of eat away at the diehard fans that say we’re better than that.”
“So if the over under is set at eight wins for the Buccaneers they figure most people will bet the over because they believe in their team and that’s the same with the odds.”
But don’t let the odds fool you, the Buccaneers have the talent and potential to hang in there in a tough NFC South.
“As close to the Buccaneers as I am I think they’re a playoff contender, I think the Jaguars can be,” said Cummings. “The Dolphins again can’t beat the Patriots so they’ve got to be a wildcard team.”
Time will tell, can Jameis Winston help lead the Bucs to a playoff appearance with the additions of O.J. Howard and DeSean Jackson?
“He (Winston) wants to be one of the greatest of all times, he doesn’t just want to be another guy,” said Cummings. “Bucs fans should be really excited about the fact that this guy does not let up in anyway in terms of his preparation and his drive.”
