Ronde Barber to Retire Today, Teammates React


After 16 spectacular seasons all spent playing for one team, Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback-turned-safety Ronde Barber is calling it a career. He’ll formally announce his retirement today in a 2:00 press conference at One Buc Place.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer broke the news on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, saying that Barber had been “mulling the decision for a while.”

The Buccaneers confirmed Glazer’s report Wednesday evening with Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer issuing the following statement:

“Ronde is synonymous with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, establishing himself as one of our franchise’s iconic players over a 16-year, Hall of Fame-worthy career. When anyone thinks of Ronde, they think of a true professional and leader. He approached every day the same, giving everything he had to make himself and his teammates the best they could be. We will miss him.”

Many of Barber’s current and former teammates and players from around the league took to Twitter to offer their congratulations.
