Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans is taking a cautious approach in regards to his workload what with his hamstring issue. The Bucs first-rounder suffered a hamstring strain in the first full workout with the team.
“Oh yeah, he’s missed a lot of time; there’s no way to sugarcoat it,’’ head coach Lovie Smith said, per the Tampa Tribune. “We wanted Mike taking every rep because, as a rookie, you need to take every rep.’’
What makes that quote sting a little is the fact that the Bucs were looking to Evans to start. But he’s been held out and can’t get reps. Even though Smith is disappointed by the setback, he says he has no desire to push Evans.
“All around the league it’s happening, especially with the new guys, because those last couple weeks (before the draft) they’re doing a lot of traveling and they don’t work out exactly how they should,’’ Smith said.
