FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes was limited at practice and uncertain if he will play in New York’s season opener against Tampa Bay as he recovers from a foot injury that sidelined him most of last season.
Holmes says Wednesday that “I still don’t know” if he’ll be ready to go Sunday, but adds that he feels “pretty good” about his progress. He says his availability for the game will likely come sometime Sunday morning.
Holmes seriously hurt his left foot in Week 4 of last season, an injury that required two surgeries to repair.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez (right shoulder), linebacker Quinton Coples (ankle), defensive tackle Leger Douzable (illness) and tight end Kellen Winslow (knee) didn’t practice, but Douzable and Winslow are expected to play.
