The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had an extremely busy free agency period and they’ve got some great new talent. But that doesn’t mean they’re done. They Bucs have pick No. 7 in the NFL Draft and they have a shot at getting one of the top names in the 2014 class.
Johnny Manziel is the sought-after QB this year but just because Tampa Bay is selecting at No. 7, doesn’t mean Manziel won’t still be available. There is a reasonable chance that they will get this solid quarterback.
The Bucs have their eyes set on other key players as well but chances are, those players will be gone by No. 7. Sammy Watkins and Khalil Mack are top prospects for Tampa and would do great with the Bucs, if they aren’t picked up right away by other teams.
If Manziel goes to Tampa, he obviously would not play right away since the Bucs just signed free agent QB Josh McCown. If selected, Manziel would easily learn a brand new offensive system under Jeff Tedford and being McCown’s backup wouldn’t be such a terrible gig.
Mike Glennon is still in Tampa Bay, set to backup McCown right now but placing Manziel in the hands of Tedford would make magic. Tedford’s system would highlight his footwork and easily push Manziel to success in the pros.
Manziel is really the only first round player that seems suitable for the Bucs and what they need right now. In later rounds, players like Jared Abbrederis, Ben Gardner, Yawin Smallwood, Jordan Najvar, and Wesley Johnson, are all predicted to go to Tampa Bay.
