Bucs Adrian Clayborn,”Everybody’s Buying Into The System”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn shed some light on where the Bucs are as a defense Monday afternoon after training camp.

“Everybody has bought into the system,” Clayborn said.

Does this mean that there were player last season that didn’t buy into the system? Did head coach Greg Schiano have to bring in players that he could work with and cut players that didn’t buy in.

“It’s 10, 20 times better than last year. A lot better than last year,” Clayborn said.

It’s good to see players are buying into the system if you’re a Bucs fan.

(On whether or not the defense is ahead of the offense at this point)
“I have no idea. I think it’s going back and forth. [The offense] gets us some drills, we get them some drills, and we’re just out here working.”

(On what has impressed him the most thus far)
“Just how everybody has really bought into the system. It’s ten times, twenty times better than last year and I only played three games. Just everybody working with the system and playing together, it’s a lot better than last year.”

(On if he’s feeling stronger right now than previously)
“I feel good man, I feel good. My knee is 100 [percent] finally and I’m just trying to play hard every play.”

(On if he’s aggravated that he can’t hit a quarterback yet)
“We need [quarterback] Josh [Freeman] so I’m not too worried about it. I’ll get my chance.”

(On day-to-day improvement of pass defense)
“Yeah, definitely. We have [pass rush specialist] Bryan Cox in the room full-time now helping us out with our techniques and stuff. It’s really helping us out and it’s showing, it’s showing.”

(On the best advice Bryan Cox has given him)
“For me personally, just get back to my old self and don’t try to be fancy. Just [play] hard-nosed and get after the quarterback.”

(On if he ever watches film of Bryan Cox playing)
“I haven’t, but if he’s watching this [interview], I have.”

(On if he feels a strong secondary playing behind him)
“You could just feel the presence. You can hear [safety] Dashon [Goldson] back there talking to them and getting them organized and you can just feel the linebackers stepping up. I don’t know, you can just feel it all.”

(On the expectations for him and fellow defensive end Da’Quan Bowers)
“You don’t really have to talk about what’s understood. We need to get after the quarterback, we need to show that we are the draft picks they drafted and get after the quarterback and provide for the defense.”
