MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins have signed kicker Nate Kaeding, it was announced today. The team also placed kicker Dan Carpenter on Reserve/Injured List.
The 6-0, 187-pound Kaeding joins Miami following a nine-year stint (2004-12) with the San Diego Chargers. This season, he saw action in three games and connected on seven-of-seven field goal attempts and was six-of-six on points after touchdowns. For his career, Kaeding has converted 180-of-207 field goal attempts (87.0 percent) and 349-of-351 points after touchdowns (99.4 percent). He holds a career-long field goal of 57 yards. Additionally, he is a two-time Pro Bowler (2006, 2009) and his 87.0 percent conversion rate makes him the most accurate kicker in NFL history.
Kaeding attended the University of Iowa where he was named to the All-America team as both a junior and a senior. He holds school records in consecutive field goals made (22), points after touchdowns (60) as well as career field goals (67) and points after touchdowns (166). He also is the Big Ten leader in career points with 373. Kaeding was born on Mach 26, 1982 in Iowa City, Iowa.
