Blake Bortles Signs Rookie Contract

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced rookie quarterback Blake Bortles signed his rookie contract. The deal is just your average rookie contract. Bortles is expected to make a guaranteed $20,654,799 over 4 years with a $13 million signing bonus. You can watch video of the signing here.

According to the Florida Times Union, Bortles was the highest drafted rookie that was unsigned going into Wednesday. However, the team’s plan all along was to have him signed before rookies leave for summer break next Wednesday.

The signing comes on the second day of Jaguars minicamp. The Jaguars are still planning on starting Chad Henne, rather than Bortles, with Bortles sitting for a year or two.

Bortles was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Mock drafts had Bortles going to either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns or Jacksonville Jaguars, with the Jaguars being the favorite. Most had him going No. 1 overall to the Houston Texans, but that wound up being former South Carolina Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
