The Rowdies announced today that the club has signed defender/midfielder Anthony Wallace to a one-year contract through the 2014 NASL season.
Wallace (5’11, 160) is versatile left back, who was part of the Colorado Rapids of MLS since 2009. The 24-year-old made 38 appearances, including 26 starts during his time with the 2010 MLS Cup Champions. Wallace was originally drafted by FC Dallas in the first round of the 2007 MLS Super Draft, where he made 15 appearances in three-and-a-half seasons.
“As a local youth soccer player, Anthony has gone on to achieve success at the premier level in the U.S.,” commented Rowdies general manager Perry Van Der Beck. “He brings more experience and depth to our team. He’s a technically sound player who solidifies our options defensively in the midfield. He will be a high impact player and will be instrumental in achieving our goals for the upcoming season.”
The defender/midfielder has international experience, playing through all ranks of the United States National Team, including participation in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. His successful 2010 campaign with the Rapids earned him his first senior team cap in a friendly match against Chile in 2011.
Wallace is a product of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and played collegiately for the University of South Florida. The 25-year-old was born in Brooklyn, New York, but moved to St. Petersburg with his family at an early age.
