Young USF RB Makes Most Of Opprotunity
TAMPA — With starting RB Marcus Shaw sidelined by a hamstring injury, the University of South Florida coaching staff expected to use three running backs against Connecticut last weekend: junior Michael Pierre, sophomore Willie Davis and freshman Darius Tice.
Pierre got the start, but it was the two younger backs that carried the majority of the load.
Tice carried the ball 11 times for 69 yards, while Davis added another 38 yards on eight carries.
Tice, from high school powerhouse Miami Northwestern, came into the game with just 7 yards this season. Davis hadn’t yet played an offensive snap this season, limited solely to special teams.
