Yankees Mark Teixeira Injury Update
An MRI showed no new tear and only inflammation in Mark Teixeira’s right wrist, Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced on Sunday. The first baseman received a cortisone shot and will be reevaluated in a few days.
Teixeira, 33, left Saturday’s start after reaggravating his wrist injury. He suffered tendon-sheath damage back in early March and did not return to the team until late last month. The Yankees opted against season-ending surgery and instead took a conservative rehab approach.
In 15 games since coming off the DL, Teixeira has gone 8-for-53 (.151) with three home runs. He has been unable to do his usual pregame hitting routine due to lingering discomfort, hitting coach Kevin Long confirmed Saturday.
