Yankees Looking At D-Backs Justin Upton

PALM SPRINGS — The Yankees aren’t expected to be major players when it comes to big-time free agents this winter, as next year’s $189 million payroll threshold looms over them like a big, dark cloud.

The trade market? That’s another story.

The biggest name to float around the Hyatt Regency during the first day of the general manager’s meetings was Arizona’s Justin Upton, the 25-year-old two-time All-Star right fielder.

According to sources, Upton has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to block deals to four teams. The Yankees were on that list a year ago, but it has since been updated and they are no longer on it.
