WR Davis to Break USF Record
The Bulls may not be celebrating one of their best seasons, but one of their top players certainly is. Wide receiver Andre Davis is on his way to breaking records for USF.
The 6’1”, 202 pound Tampa native, known as “FreakShow_81” to his Twitter followers, already owns the school record for consecutive games with a catch (27) and he is ranked seventh in career catches (104). He boasts 1,328 yards.
#81 has been impressing coaches and fans since high school. At Jefferson High, he was an All-American player with more than 150 catches for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns. He did all of that in three seasons and well before he decided where he would play in college.
When it came time to play ball in college, Davis was deciding between Florida State and USF. For him, it came down to research. He wanted to be the player that could help make the program better, not just sit on the sideline. One of his deciding influences was the fact that he was from the area and wanted to stay.
Davis claims that his talents came from his Dad, who always taught him to catch with his hands. Playing catch with his dad at a young age helped him decide to play wide receiver. But today, playing wide receiver is something more than just playing catch. Davis is now the third Bulls receiver to post consecutive 100-yard games by racking up sixteen catches for 244 yards against Houston and Memphis.
Fans can see that his hard work is paying off. The Bulls face SMU Saturday night and for Davis, it’s a big game. He needs 28 catches to pass Hugh Smith as USF’s career leader. He also needs 321 yards to jolt the record and hold the top spot.
Luckily, Bulls fans can expect much more from this football star. Davis is a junior so he will back for more next year.
Fans can watch Davis in action this Saturday November 23rd at Raymond James Stadium at 7PM as the Bulls face the Mustangs of SMU.
