World Series Contenders, Ray Rice Apology, Kevin Love Saga

Missed part of The Mariotti Show?

The Jay Mariotti Podcast for Thursday, July 31:

This is no movie. Mr. Moneyball, Billy Beane, is going for the jugular by dealing for Jon Lester in his second summer blockbuster. The A’s, with best record and offense in majors, now have deepest rotation and could afford to part with Yoenis Cespedes, who becomes unaffordable for Oakland as 2015 free agent. Red Sox makeover is fascinating, giving up pitching (Lester and John Lackey) for young hitting (Cespedes and Allen Craig). Cardinals try to fix broken-down rotation. Dodgers keep prized prospects and Matt Kemp but miss chance, with Lester, to become prohibitive World Series faves. Tampa Bay demands ransom for David Price, keeps him until offseason. Phillies keep Cole Hamels. Like Oakland and Dodgers in WS.

Ray Rice speaks, shows contrition, admits some wrongdoing but doesn’t specify what happened that night. Yes, the video looks bad, but media continue to assume the very worst without having any idea, which is irresponsible. Media have fueled this story more than fans. Richard Sherman too consumed with Patrick Peterson and Twitter.

Can they trade Kevin Love to Cleveland already?

The Mariotti Show streams live M-F noon to 3 ET.
