The Marlins offense remained quiet in the loss on Sunday, as the team scored just one run. With the loss, the Fish dropped the series against Milwaukee 2-1, and went 3-4 on the homestand.

The Marlins, however, still sit alone in second place in the division, just 2.5 games back of the first place Braves.

Randy Wolf struggled to fool the Brewers’ hitters in his first start since 2012, as he surrendered 6 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and 1 walk over 5 innings.

On the other hand, Jimmy Nelson, making his 2014 debut for the Brewers, held the Marlins scoreless through 5 2/3 innings.

The Brewers offense jumped on Wolf early, scoring three runs on four hits, a walk and an error in the top of the first.

Back-to-back doubles by Braun and Jonathan Lucroy produced the first Milwaukee run. Lucroy then scored on a single by Carlos Gomez, and Rickie Weeks drove in Gomez with a line-drive single to left.

Mike Redmond, however, said Wolf’s performance did not mean the veteran left-hander would be immediately sent back to the bullpen.

“I guess we weren’t really sure what to expect of him,” Redmond said of Wolf, who was signed and thrust into the rotation after Fernandez’s season-ending Tommy John surgery. “It was a grind; it was a struggle obviously.”

For the Marlins offense, though it was a struggle as it wasn’t until the 9th inning that they got on the board, courtesy of Marcell Ozuna and his 9th home run.

Other than that, Marlins hitters went 0-7 with runners in scoring position.

The Marlins now head to D.C. for a three game set against the third-place Nationals before returning home next weekend for a crucial series with the Braves.

The series starts tomorrow afternoon, at 1:35 PM ET.
