With Byrd In Hand, Phillies Reportedly Turn Attention To Jays Bautista

The Philadelphia Phillies struck first in MLBs hot stove season by inking outfielder Marlon Byrd to a 2-year/$16M dollar contract. The 36-year old Byrd hit .291/.336/.511 with an .847 OPS split between the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates.

The rumor mill suggest that the Phillies have kept their poker in the fire and are targeting Blue Jays power hitter Jose Bautista and may be offering a package of prospects focused around young outfielder Dominic Brown.

The rumor was first reported by Howard Eskin of CBS Philadelphia.

As the winds blow in the hot stove season the rumor was quickly shot down by multiple sources including CBS’s Jon Heyman:

Whether the Phillies and Blue Jays ever talked about Jose Bautista is an unknown but it certainly was a fun way to begin the hot stove season.
