Winston on both the diamond and the gridiron this weekend
According to the Florida Times Union - FSU’s Heisman Trophy winner has pulled double duty this past month, balancing his role as the baseball team’s closer with spring football workouts.
Winston will travel to Atlanta on Friday with the baseball team when the Seminoles begin their weekend series against Georgia Tech. He will then fly back to Tallahassee on Saturday for FSU’s annual spring game before returning to Atlanta to finish the series on Sunday.
In all, Winston will journey a little more than 1,000 miles.
Winston has been in the spotlight since last spring, when he was in a highly publicized battle for FSU’s starting QB spot. FSU coach Jimbo Fisher and baseball coach Mike Martin each commended Winston for how he handled the balancing act last year, but Fisher said this spring has seemed to take its toll on him to a certain extent.
Every now and then he’ll drift a tad, very rarely,” Fisher said. “But I’ll say something and he naturally comes back.”
Fisher has periodically seen a tired look in Winston’s eyes and is hopeful that fatigue will no longer be an issue after this weekend.
“He can do it. We have to manage it to, be smart, recognize the key signs and have a great open communication with not just baseball but him, get honest answers back,” Fisher said. “I can cut things back or moving it back or giving him rest time, whatever it may be.”Winston on both the diamond and the gridiron this weekend by James Williams
