Wings' Gustavsson Gets Nod Versus Undefeated Avs
Gustavsson, regularly Detroits backup, has been forced into action while starter Jimmy Howard recovers from a hand injury. Suffice to say, the 28-year-old Swede has taken the opportunity and made the most of it.
On Tuesday, Gustavsson stopped 36 of 37 Blue Jackets shots in a 2-1 Detroit victory. That first-star performance came one night after a 30-save, 3-2 win over Boston that left Bruins forward Milan Lucic raving.
Wings teammate Todd Bertuzzi has also been impressed.
Hes stepped up and is playing very well, Bertuzzi said, per the Macomb Daily. Hes playing like a goalie whos 6-foot-4, coming out and challenging. He made a huge save there in the end. Hes playing very competitive. Hes out of the paint and being very aggressive. Hes been doing a heck of a job. Weve played two pretty good teams here and hes stood on his head.
