Wil Myers Ignites Offense, Rays Defeat Orioles 7-4

Wil Myers Continues Power Surge Blasts Mammoth Homer

The Tampa Bay Rays improved their Grapefruit League record to 13-4 by defeating the Baltimore Orioles (10-7) by a final score of 7-4.

Wil Myers ignited the Rays 20-hit attack yesterday with three doubles out of the leadoff spot found himself penciled on top of the lineup against the Orioles and responded with a mammoth home run to lead off the game.

The Rays 20-hit attack Tuesday evening did not consist of a single home run but they changed that this afternoon when Sean Rodriguez and Jayson Nix joined Myers with home runs accounting for four of the teams seven runs.

Wil Myers, Logan Forsythe, and Wilson Betemit had a pair of hits apiece. Matt Joyce had to leave the game after one plate appearance due to a stiff neck.

Mark Lowe who is competing for a bullpen spot started for the Rays and allowed two unearned runs in 2.1 innings of work on four hist striking out one. He worked himself into trouble in his second inning of work allowing runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out and stranding them both. He said after the game that he learned from his former pitching coach Mike Maddux of the Texas Rangers that you never stop battling until the final out is made.

Jake McGee came in and worked to two batters in the third inning. Josh Leuke who is out of options and battling for one of the open bullpen spots delivered a solid scoreless inning of work. Steve Geltz  and Juan Sandoval each allowed an earned run in their 2.1 innings of work. Matt Lollis recorded the final out of the game.
