Who Will Be Yankees New Closer?
Mariano Rivera’s replacement was closer David Robertson. Well, Robertson is out with a groin injury, so now manager Joe Girardi doesn’t know who will take over those important duties.
According to ESPN New York, when asked who will be the new ninth-inning guy, he responded with, “That’s a great question.”
It’s possible that Shawn Kelley is a contender for the job. Kelley is a 30-year-old with a 3.70 lifetime ERA. But, there are others who might be a better fit. According to Hardball Talk, Left-hander Matt Thornton has the most closing experience among the available candidates, which also includes Adam Warren, David Phelps, and Dellin Betances.
So, it looks like there aren’t a lot of very promising options for the Yankees.
