Broncos receiver Wes Welker initially was evaluated on the field for a neck injury during the Broncos’ game Sunday night, and no concussion symptoms were apparent at that time, the team said Tuesday.
It wasn’t until Welker was on the sideline several minutes later that he began experiencing symptoms consistent with a concussion. When those symptoms surfaced, the Broncos said their medical team followed the NFL’s mandated concussion protocol and decided Welker should not return to the game.
