The team of Weir, Lipinski and Gannon has been the surprise hit of this years games for NBC Sports. A number of younger viewers like my niece Allison and her husbandHershel like the lighter style of analysis provided by the trio.You will see the personality that has won then so many fans in Sochi.
If you have not seen Weir, Lipinski and Gannon in action this should be a great showcase for them. They can focus of the fun on the ice and not have to worry any judging issues.
Saturday'sgala will begin with the carving of the Olympic rings into the ice to honor Russian figure skating iconNikolai Panin-Kolomenkin, the countrys first ever Olympic champion, who won the special figures event at the 1908 Olympic Games in London. The figure skating gala is the final figure skating event of the Sochi Games and is the last opportunity to see the worlds best skaters perform in Sochi.
Viewers will see the worlds best figure skaters, including the top six finishers from both the mens and ladies individual events, as well as the top five couples from the pairs and ice dancing events, the 2014 Sochi Games figure skating gala will air during NBCs prime-time coverage between8 11 p.m. ET.
The line-up will include: ladies gold medalistAdelina Sotnikova(RUS), silver medalistYuna Kim(KOR), bronze medalistCarolina Kostner(ITA), andGracie Gold(USA), who finished fourth. Ligety became the first American man to win gold in the giant slalom eventon Wednesday. Also highlighted in the prime-time show is the four-man bobsled, in whichSteve Holcomb, who ledTeam USAto gold in the four-man bobsled in 2010 will compete in the event. Holcomb and teammateSteve Langtonenter the four-man competition after winning bronze in the two-man bobsled in Sochi.Also in prime-time is the team pursuit event in both mens and womens speed skating.
