Weather to be an issue all weekend at the U.S. Open
We have an update and that is play will resume at 12:10 p.m. EDT.
Heavy rain’s and high winds have hit the 2013 U.S. Open at the Merion Golf Club in suburban Philadelphia very hard. Play was halted at 8:36 a.m. it is now 10:45 and things are not looking much better. At this point the chances of finishing round one today seem at best to be a longshot.

The Thursday weather forecast for entire I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C. through Philadelphia and into New York City calls for a full day of heavy rains and gusty winds.
This year’s open could take a while to play as the rain and wind issues are not likely to leave the area until Saturday and that is if all goes well. There is likely to be extended play, weather permitting, Friday and for sure as things clear up on Saturday and Sunday.
The broadcast plans remain ESPN with live coverage today and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with NBC picking up the coverage between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. It is fair to expect the ESPN Thursday and Friday coverage to go well past the 7 p.m. time slot depending on the weather.
Also look for NBC to get an earlier start when they take over full weekend coverage Saturday and Sunday. As of now live coverage is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. but those times could be moved up or back if need be.
