Washington Redskins run by the Tampa Mafia

In Washington the media are now calling GM Bruce Allen and the new head coach Jay Gruden the "Tampa Mafia," which is not a bad thing. Allen and Gruden were together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002 to '08, where Allen was the GM and Gruden served as an offinsive coach to his brother Jon who was the head coach.

Gruden was a star quarterback at Chamberlain (My alma mater), was one of the most successful quarterbacks in Arena Footall League history with the Tampa Bay Storm and coached for AFL and the UFL in Orlando so his central Florida roots are very deep.

His first head coaching job just happens to be with one of the NFL's most high profile franchises. At yesterday's press conference at Redskins Park there was nearly 75 local and national media on hand to ask questions. In Washington, only the President gets more coverage than the Redskins. It is often said that the White House Press corps is second to the massive press corp that follows the Redskins.

So the Tampa Mafia is now in place and it will be fun to see how Gruden does in the Nations Capital.

Here is Gruden's interview from our friends at Comcast SportsNet Washington.
