Vinnie Lecavalier Receives Standing Ovation After Tribute

Flyers_Vincent_Lecavalier_2013Prior to Wednesday’s night game with the Philadelphia Flyers Vincent Lecavalier was asked what he most remembered in his 14 year career in Tampa Bay with the Lightning. “It’s pretty easy to answer, winning the Stanley Cup” he said.

He was looking forward to the game but said, “Honestly, I don’t know how I’m going to react. It’s definitely going to be a special night. It’s exciting that’s all I can say. It’s nice to be back here an see family and friends – and tonight playing in front of the fans that I played in front of for 15 years so its going to be very very special.”

The team prepared a special tribute video which was played during a break in the first intermission:

Afterwards the Tampa Bay Times Forum crowd gave him a standing ovation:

After the game Vinnie said, “It was very weird stepping out on the ice…obviously we didn’t win but I had a great experience just skating on the ice. All the fans were supportive of me – it definitely means a lot.” He admitted that the tribute video helped settle him down a bit. “I mean, they told me yesterday they were going to do it at the 10-minute mark so I was looking for everything to settle down. I was a little nervous before the game started, had butterfly’s that whole thing but being out there in warmups.  Just seeing people with  my jersey and with cards saying ‘we miss you’ and all that – it really got me – it really meant a lot so I got nothing but good things to say about the fans or about this organization.”
