At one point in Sunday’s game, it was 20-14 and the Bucs had a legitimate shot at taking the lead.
The defense then surrendered a 10:27 drive that ended in a 21-yard field goal by kicker Phil Dawson in the fourth quarter. It was just one of several instances where the defense failed to get off the field on third down and virtually killed all momentum.
“It’s tough. It’s very tough,” cornerback Darrelle Revis said after the game.
“You want to get three-and-outs all the time, consistently. That didn’t happen. We ended up on the field longer on some long drives and that can tire a defense out, especially with the great offense that they have. We have to get off the field and we failed to do that on those long drives.”
The defense also failed to force a turnover.
“They did a good job of taking care of the ball today. You’ve got to give it to them. We harp on making turnovers every week. That’s what we do as a defense and that didn’t get done today.”
