Victor Oladipo fits Magic’s culture
Victor Oladipo has a reputation of being a humble, hard working and talented basketball player. During the introductory press conference this past Friday, Oladipo confirmed two out of the three characteristics.
The 21-year-old talked about his parents emigrating from Nigeria and having to work hard to give their children a better life. His parents’ humble background and hard work have shown him he has to work hard in order to be successful.
When asked about comparisons to Dwyane Wade he humbly responded, “I don’t know whether it’s fair or it’s just because Tom Crean is my coach. We have similar parts to our game. I’m just trying to be the best Victor Oladipo possible.”
When selecting players in the draft, Rob Hennigan and his team make sure that the player not only fits their system on the court but also the culture that they’re trying to build.
“He’s about what we want to be about. He’s humble, he’s a hard worker, he’s unselfish and he wants to be a good player in this league. We feel like those ingredients are ingredients that mesh well with what we are trying to build,” Hennigan said.
As for the third characteristic, only time will tell if Oladipo will live up to his potential on the court. We will get a glimpse of his talents during Orlando’s Pro Summer League from July 7-12.
