The Bulls are struggling to find something to celebrate now that the end of the season is near and their record is not something to be proud of. USF is close to finishing their worst season in school history.
Luckily, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Place-kicker PK Marvin Kloss has been named one of the Lou Groza Award finalists. This award is given each year to the nation’s top kicker. The winner will be announced at Disney World on December 12th at the Home Depot College Football Awards show.
Along with Kloss, Texas senior Anthony Fera and FSU freshman Roberto Aguayo are also finalists.
Kloss boasts a national-best four field-goal attempts from 50 yards and deeper. He has converted 14 of 18 attempts. Kloss will have the chance to improve his record this Friday night when the Bulls face their in-state rival, UCF.
The possibility of winning this award has put a smile on coach Willie Taggart’s face. Taggart says that he is extremely thankful for Kloss and it means a lot for his team to have something this positive to build on as they finish up the season.
Aside from national attention, Kloss has been a solid MVP candidate for the Bulls. The team has scored only 9 offensive touchdowns this season. They are the first team since Notre Dame in 2002, to win consecutive games without scoring a touchdown.
That’s where Kloss comes in. He converted 13 consecutive field-goal attempts, which is a school record. He might be considered the underdog in this award competition but the Bulls are grateful for this exceptional player.
