TAMPA, FEB. 12, 2014 – Former University of South Florida Bulls Ryne Giddins (Seffner) and Lawrence Martin (Daytona Beach) will compete in the second annual College All Star Bowl to be played Friday, Feb. 14 at Furman University’s newly renovated Paladin Stadium.
Giddins and Martin will compete for the American side in the Americans vs. Nationals game that will be televised live on CBS Sports Network at 6:00 p.m.
The Americans will be led by College Football Hall of Fame coach Willie Jeffries of South Carolina State while the Nationals will be led by former Clemson coach Danny Ford who led the Tigers to the National Championship in 1981. Practices for the game begin Wednesday.
Giddins, who played in every game the last four seasons, posted 27 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and five sacks in 2013 and finished his career ranked third all-time at USF with 19.5 career sacks and ninth with 33 tackles for loss. Martin, who played two seasons at USF, saw action at tight end and fullback in 2013 after playing the previous year and starting the season at guard. He will move back to the offensive line for the All Star game.
Giddins and Martin join second team All-American Conference linebacker DeDe Lattimore as USF competitors in post-season games. Lattimore competed in January in the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg.
USF begins spring practice on Feb. 27 and will hold 15 spring practices leading up to the annual Spring Game on March 29 at Raymond James Stadium. That game is set for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
