USF News: USF Women’s Soccer falls to FAU in Season Opener
As the USF Women’s Soccer team tried to continue a two-year, 18-match home unbeaten streak, they fell short to the FAU Owls 1-0.
The Owls took the lead in the 13th minute, as Claire Emslie scored off a free kick. For the rest of the first half, USF had many chances to score but couldn’t finish. Olivia Chance had two shots on goal, while Demi Stokes and Jessica Clark both had one.
The Bulls had even more openings during the second half. Jackie Simpson almost scored a header, but was denied by FAU goalie, Sydney Drinkwater. During the 65th minute Christina Ferral took a beautiful corner kick, but was also shut down.
Stokes continued to have opportunities. She made a break in the 75th minute, but shot wide and hit the side netting. Shortly after, she was able to take another shot that was deflected by Drinkwater.
Ocean Parr also had an opportunity to score the equalizer, but her kick sailed over the crossbar, leaving the Bulls behind 1-0.
Next up the Bulls will head to Gainesville on Sunday to take on the University of Florida Gators. They return home on Aug. 29 to take on Navy at 7:30 p.m.
#Bulls can’t capitalize in the second half and fall 1-0 in the home opener against the FAU Owls. They’ll be back in action Friday Aug. 29.
