Insider: UCF's McCombs Gone for Year
UCF Basketball announced in a press release Wednesday morning that senior Dwight McCombs will not compete the remainder of the spring semester. ?McCombs was averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds while playing 12.5 minutes per game as the backup center. ?He had started six games earlier to begin the season, but transfer Josh Crittle had been getting the lion's share of minutes down low since.
UCF Athletics released this statement from head coach Donnie Jones:
?Dwight has been a valuable member of our program and we wish him best of luck in the future. We appreciate Dwight?s contributions these past two years and he will continue to have our support.?
Per university policy, the school will not specifically address any details related to his departure.
The exit of McCombs is just another story in a week of turmoil for the program. ?On Saturday, it was revealed that another senior, Jeff Jordan was leaving the team for "personal reasons". ?Jones is also in the midst of a school-imposed three game suspension for allegations made against the coach in an ongoing NCAA investigation.
Despite the negative press, the Knights are currently 2-0 in Conference USA play and have another CUSA matchup at home tonight at 7 PM versus Houston.
