UCF’s Biggest Game in 2013? Good Question

ucftodayno3

The Knights’ 2103 schedule is stuffed full of big games. This season, UCF will play against new conference foes, try to end some Heisman hopefuls’ chance at history and will meet up with classic rivals from days past. There is a lot to look forward to in Orlando this season. When looking at the upcoming schedule it is tough to say which will be the most anticipated game in 2013.

Thursday, August 29th vs. Akron.

The first game of the year is always a popular choice. UCF will open the 2013 campaign against Akron at home. The Knights are expected to easily handle the Zips. Fans will get to finally dust off the tailgating gear and head to memory mall to party down before strolling into Bright House Stadium to cheer the Knights onto victory for the first time in 2013.

Saturday, September 14th at Penn State.

The third game of the year in Happy Valley is a big one. This will be a great litmus test for the Knights, as they will be pitted against a very strong Lions team led by second year coach Bill O’Brien. Penn State has proven to be a resilient team, playing well during all the ugly controversy that surrounded their program. UCF and the fans should be excited about this opportunity in mid-September to match up against one of the classic programs in college football and prove themselves ready for the big time.

Saturday, September 28th vs. South Carolina.

The game at home against South Carolina has a solid case as game of the year in 2013. The Gamecocks are the biggest team to visit Orlando since Miami in 2009. This is the Knights’ best chance to shock the world this season. The Ol’ Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, may have his best team in Columbia, S.C. to date. Led by super-talent, Jadaveon Clowney, the Gamecocks may have the best shot in the SEC to end Alabama’s run at a third straight national championship. It will be the biggest challenge of the year, but if the Knights can dig down, #ChargeOn, and find a way to pull off the upset, UCF would easily break into the top 25.

Friday, October 18th at Louisville.

This game could be for all the marbles. The Knights should be more than pumped for this game up in Kentucky for a few reasons. First of all, the Cardinals are one of the hottest programs in the country and have a top ten-ranked team led by Heisman hopeful QB Teddy Bridgewater. Louisville has been projected by many to completely dominate the American Conference. This is a chance for the Knights to show that they can play with the big boys on national TV. Secondly, the Cardinals are ditching the American after this year and UCF would love to spoil their anticipated dream season and give them a parting gift they won’t soon forget.

Thursday November 21 vs. Rutgers.

At first glance, this may not look like a huge game. However, Rutgers, like Louisville, will abandon the newly minted American Athletic Conference after this season. Meaning, this will be UCF’s lone chance to play against the newest member of the venerable Big Ten Conference. UCF will want to take advantage of a chance to give the Scarlet Knights a preview of what will be in store for them next year- a good solid beat down.

Friday November 29 vs. USF.

Oh yea, this is the game against that team an hour down the road, the USF Bulls. Whether they are nearing the end of a losing campaign or a winning one, this game on Thanksgiving weekend will be huge. UCF has never beaten their rivals from the Tampa area and 2013 may be their best chance to change that and avenge some past ugly losses. Sending the Bulls and new head coach, Willie Taggart, home defeated would give them 12 months to remember who owns the I-4 corridor. And how sweet would a conference championship at their expense be?

So what do you think? I would love to hear from you! What game are you looking forward to the most in 2013 and why?
