UCF upsets Cards 38-35 statement made

The scoreboard at Papa John Stadium read the University of Central Florida 38 and No. 8 Louisville 35. A chance at a BCS National Championship is gone for the Cardinals. The sellout crowd of 55,000 fans sat silent as a small but loud group of UCF boosters were jumping with joy at the upset. It was another statement win for the Knights who moved to 5-1, 2-0 American Athletic Conference.

UCF pulls the big upset on the road over Louisville.

Central Florida football team pulled off a stunning 21-point comeback on the University of Louisville on Friday night, and when the Cardinals responded in the final minutes, UCF stunned and shocked them. UCF quarterback Blake Bortles’ winning 2-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Godfrey with 23 seconds left capped a 75-yard drive over the final three minutes that sealed the upset come from behind road win 38-35.

The turning point was UCF’s second half roll tourching  U of L’s defense, which had led the FBS in fewest points allowed and was second in fewest yards allowed, was gashed for 446 total yards, including 269 in the second half.

The loss could have cost U of L as much as a $20 million dollar payday if they could have gone undefeated. That is no longer on the Cardinals radar and it puts them in second place in AAC behind UCF. The Knights are about to learn what life in the national spotlight is like.

This win is huge for the Knights and you can bet there will be more focus on the program and they now are the face of the AAC. The Knights are the new Boise State and that is not bad. The resume of the Knights now has wins over Penn State and Louisville and a close loss to the old ball coach and South Carolina.

Great game, great win and now it is up to UCF to build on this signature win and hope there is no let down.  This UCF team could go 11-1 and could land a big time bowl game. But they need to keep playing like they did last night and not lose focus.
