UCF is Right Team at Right Time (and Picks)

Who would have thought that the first in-state team to be in the BCS when the first projected Bowl Rankings come out would be UCF?

Well that’s what happened when the Knights shocked Louisville, 38-35, last night.

That’s the funny world of college football though. Being in the right place at the right time is far more important than having the best team. The Knights’ first year in an American Athletic Conference that’s in its final year in the BCS.

Now the hard part begins. The Knights have to hold on and take the best shot from their remaining opponents. Houston and Rutgers, widely considered to be the most difficult games left on the schedule, are both at home. Rutgers, however, will catch UCF on a short week and coming off of a road trip to Temple.

IT’S TEST TIME FOR FSU

I’ve heard all season that FSU hasn’t been tested. Well Saturday night that changes as the Seminoles walk into Death Valley for a nationally televised clash of top 5 programs.

The Seminoles haven’t won at Clemson since 2001 when a redshirt freshman named Chris Rix lit up the Tigers for over 350 yards in the air. FSU will look to another redshirt freshman, Jameis Winston, to repeat that history.

However, while FSU’s offense should have success against Clemson it’s the defense that will make the difference. Clemson isn’t as explosive on offense this season without the running game that Andre Ellington provided last year. Expect the Seminoles to start strong and hold on late.

FSU 35, Clemson 27
