There is no doubt that every student at the University of Central Florida is proud of the Knights football team that earned the schools first ever BCS Bowl slot. There is also no doubt that New Years afternoon many of those fans would love to be in Phoenix in person to watch UCF take on Baylor but that will not be the case.
However, traveling over 2,000 miles to Phoenix to the Fiesta Bowl to see UCF face Baylor is a very expensive trip and one that about 7,500 fans will be able to make.
The school did send back 10,000 unsold tickets to the Fiesta Bowl it was just too much money for most fans to spend on a trip out west. Baylor by the way sent back about 5,000 tickets. Both teams were sent 17,000 tickets to sell to their fans for the game.
Tickets were not the real issue for fans it was the cost of the round trip airfare as well as the hotels in the Phoenix area that gave Knights fans sticker shock.
Had UCF gotten a chance to play closer to Orlando like say in either the Orange Bowl or the Sugar Bowl then there is no doubt that fans could have scored tickets and driven to the game sites. However, when it was announced that UCF and Baylor were headed to the Valley of the Sun that was just too far and too expensive for Knights fans to travel.
