UCF Defensive Coordinator Hired at Rhode Island
The University of Rhode Island announced that their new head football coach is UCF defensive coordinator Jim Fleming.
Fleming will make his big debut on Monday in a news conferences on campus. He is replacing Joe Trainer who was fired in November and still had one more year left on his contract.
Fleming is now the 20th head coach in URI history but this is not his first head-coaching gig. He was the head coach at Sacred Heart in 2000-2001, leading his team to two Northeast Conference titles. He has also been an assistant coach at Akron, North Carolina, Kent State, Villanova, East Carolina, Boise State, and Brown.
URI athletic director Thorr Bjorn says that the program is looking forward to learning from a coach with such a great track record for building champions.
Winning is something that URI is desperate to learn how to do. They finished 3-9 this year and 12-44 in five seasons while under former coach Trainer.
