27 wins in a row and counting for the Miami Heat.  Very impressive.  But probably still a long ways to go enter the conversation for the greatest winning streak ever.  Here is how I’d rank the best in team and individual sports trying to assess both domination and competition while incorporating longevity.

 

TEAM SPORTS

8. Connecticut Women’s basketball- 90 straight wins (2008-10)

7. North Carolina Women’s soccer- 103 straight wins (1986-90)

6. Philadelphia Flyers- 35 straight games without a loss. (1979-80)

5. LA Lakers- 33 straight wins. (1971-72)

4. Indianapolis Colts- 23 straight regular season wins. (2008-09)

3. NY Giants baseball- 26 straight games without a loss in 1916.

2. Oklahoma football- 47 straight wins (1953-57)

1. UCLA basketball- 88 straight wins (1971-74)

 

INDIVIDUAL SPORTS

6. Richard Petty- 10 straight wins in 1967.

5. Byron Nelson- 11 straight tournament wins in 1945.

4. Rocky Marciano- 49 straight wins, retired as undefeated champion.

3. Martina Navratilova- 74 straight matches. (3 majors, in 1984)

2. Alexei Karelin- 13 year win streak in Greco Roman wrestling

1. Edwin Moses- 122 straight wins in 400 meter hurdles (1977-87)
