Tuck: "Remember Me?" Week In College Football
You know how when you meet someone and you have this feeling like you've met them before, and then must be reminded when and where that was? ?Ah yes, I remember you now! ?College football features some games like that this week. ?It also has some other games where the teams are familiar and are looking forward to renewing acquaintances.
Featuring the Baker's Dozen
Navy +7 @ Penn State
Two traditions, you'd think they would have met more recently than 1974. ?Navy leads the all-time series 18-17-2, but this isn't your grandfathers Midshipmen. ?These aren't Paterno's Lions either though, but they aren't bad enough to lose to Navy.
Penn State 27-14
Virginia Tech -10 @ Pittsburgh
Wait, you two know each other, you played in the Big East together! ?Next year, you'll be roommates again in the ACC Coastal division. ?Oddly, I think, the Panthers have won 3 straight in the series. ?Larry Fitzgerald isn't walking through that door though.
Virginia Tech 27-10
UConn -3 @ Maryland
Randy Edsell, I am pretty sure you have met UConn. ?Ah yes, you coached there and even won the Big East and played in the Fiesta Bowl. ?Grass isn't always greener, eh?
Utah State +13.5 @ Wisconsin
Say what? ?We've met before? ?Damn, that was in 1968?!?! ?And the Aggies won at Madison? ?The Badgers are struggling and the Aggies are flying high after beating in-state rival Utah, but Brett Bielema 18-0 all-time against non-BCS teams. ?It won't be easy, but it could be ugly.
Texas -10 @ Ole Miss
So you are telling me you don't recall the Blue Bonnet Bowl in 1966? ?Everyone is crowding the box daring the Horn's QB David Ash to throw and beat them. ?I am guessing Texas settles in and runs more this week and does it well while the defense flexes it's muscle.
Houston +17 @ UCLA
These schools are actually meeting for the third straight year. ?Go figure. ?The Bruins nearly pulled off an epic rally last year after blowing out a ranked Cougars team the previous season. ?The Bruins managed 31 and 34 points with struggling offenses the last two years. ?Now they are top 5 in yards and points. ?Houston gave up 56 last week.
BYU -3.5 @ Utah
The Holy War has been played every year since 1946. ?So you guys have definitely met, right? ?The Utes lost QB Jordan Wynn again, this time forever. ?The Utes are at home though, and 12/15 games between the two have been decided by a TD or less.
TCU -20 @ Kansas
The Horned Frogs officially become a BCS team and a Big XII team in this one, and despite not having won in Lawrence since 1962, this is a different world. ?I am betting Gary Patterson gives his team a schematic advantage in this one. ?Sorry Charlie.
USC -8.5 @ Stanford
I know you guys play every year, but something weird is going on. ?Stanford has won 4 of the last 5 games against the Trojans including the 2007 game which is the biggest upset in college football history as the Cardinal won as a 41-point underdog, 24-23 on a last minute touchdown. ?I think USC might be a little overrated, and this one could be tight because of an underrated Stanford defense.
Alabama -20 @ Arkansas
Despite the presence of Bobby Petrino and QB's like Ryan Mallett and Tyler Wilson, the Hogs have been held to 20 points or less by the Tide the last four meetings. ?Oh, what's that you say, no Petrino and possibly no Wilson? ?It will be on the Tide's offense to determine how quickly this game gets out of hand, and I am not convinced they'll just runaway and hide.
Wake Forest +27.5 @ FSU
I think you guys have been drinking some of that Stanford-USC juice. ?The Demon Deacons have won 4/6 from the Seminoles. ?So why the high point spread? ?Overconfidence in FSU I'd say. ?I'll take the points.
Florida +3 @ Tennessee
Seems odd that two rivals could play in such a lopsided series. ?The Gators have won 7 straight over the Vols. ?Here is the key, as simple as it can be when you look at stats: The team with the most rushing yards has won 9 straight and 21/22. ?Mike Gillislee is dinged up and the Vols haven't run it much, but they have run it well early in the year. ?Don't get too pass-happy Tennessee, and you'll end the losing streak.
Notre Dame +5.5 @ Michigan State
These two don't play every year, but when they do, it has been exciting. ?9/12 have been decided by single digits. ?The Irish slammed Sparty last year, and are trying to win two straight in the series for the first time since 1993-94. ?The Irish stack the box and force QB Andrew Maxwell to go to unproven wide receivers taking care of TE Dion Sims. ?On the other side, the Spartans haven't given up an offensive TD this year, but Notre Dame gets RB Cierre Wood back not a moment too soon.
Notre Dame 24-21
