Tuck: Orlando Magic Youth Movement
With Jacque Vaughn hired as the new head coach, the Orlando Magic have completely reshaped the look of those running the basketball side of things.
At 37 years young, Vaughn becomes the youngest full-time coach in the NBA. He is paired with the youngest GM in the league in Rob Hennigan at 30 years young. The next step, will be not just reducing the pay roll, but remaking the roster with an emphasis on age. Or lack there of.
The Magic already could consist of two rookies, and two second year players, but after the inevitable Dwight Howard trade, they may have as many as 6 or 7 players with under three years experience. I believe Vaughn and Hennigan will rely on Jameer Nelson and Big Baby Glen Davis to be the bridge to the younger players on the roster when it is all said and done. The vets will help teach the kids the ropes, before moving on themselves in a couple of seasons.
That is when the Orlando Magic will hope that the transition period will end and the road to ultimate victory will begin.
Of course, in addition to the hope that Vaughn and Hennigan are rising stars, it will be necessary that the team hits on their draft picks, and lures at least one marque free agent to play in Orlando.
