Tuck: Looking For Lombardi

So you say your favorite NFL team has been knocked out of the playoffs, or never made them to begin with? If you are looking for something to root for, how about rooting for guys that have played their whole careers, great careers, and in some cases, Hall of Fame careers, and haven’t yet played in or won a Super Bowl?
As a Dolphins fan I certainly find myself rooting for individuals I’ve admired and wishing they can cap off brilliant resumes with the one thing that is missing: a Super Bowl ring.
Here is a list of guys that you might like to see win a title finally.
Tony Gonzalez- An ageless wonder, and regarded as the greatest tight end of all-time by many, would like to add the cherry on top of his Hall of Fame sundae with a Super Bowl ring in what is believed to be his final season.
Ed Reed- Will go down as the greatest ball-hawk playing safety in NFL history, but has never gotten to a Super Bowl, stopped on the doorstep in his 2 previous tries.
Terrell Suggs- The reigning defensive player of the year will play in his 3rd AFC Title Game looking to get over the hump.
Randy Moss- One of the greatest receivers and scariest weapons in NFL history was part of the Patriots 18-1 team and scored a TD in the Super Bowl loss to the Giants would like to be smiling this time around when the confetti falls.
Wes Welker- The slot machine has been a part of both Super Bowl losses to the Giants, and would like nothing more than to make amends for his late drop in last year’s game.
Anquan Boldin- He came within seconds of winning a title in Arizona, and then went to Baltimore hoping to be one of the final pieces to the offensive puzzle. Don’t know if he’s a Hall of Famer, but he is one of the grittiest receivers to play the game in the modern era.
John Abraham- In 13 seasons the Falcons pass rusher has accumulated the 13th most sacks in NFL history and is searching for his first trip to the Super Bowl.
Justin Smith- Hard to believe he’s been around for a dozen years, but I guess that’s what spending half your career in Cincinnati does to a guy. What numbers don’t show is that he is one of the most indispensable defensive players in the entire league.
Matt Birk- A 6-time Pro Bowler with the Vikings, and trying still for that first trip to the Super Bowl with the Ravens in his 15th season.
Bryant McKinnie- A teammate of Birk’s in Minnesota, finally has got his act together and contributing as the starting left tackle for the Ravens in his 11th year out of Miami.
Todd McClure- A career Falcon has seen the ups and downs since coming into the NFL in 1999.
Matt Bryant and David Akers- Bryant kicked his team into their first ever NFC Title game at home, and hopes to make his first trip to a Super Bowl while Akers has been going at it for 14 years and was a loser with Philadelphia in his one trip to the big game.
